Singing and Vocal Lessons
Lessons are private and run for half an hour. For your first lesson your teacher will find out a little about yourself, e.g. what you wish to do with your voice, musical influences, directions and goals. You will also be required to sing on your first lesson so an assessment can be made by your teacher as to what kind of voice it is that you have, e.g. bass, baritone or tenor for males and contralto, alto or soprano for females. These categories simply mean whether your voice is low, middle or high range. Your teacher will advise you on your strong and weak points, and your weaker points will be worked on using scales. Vox Singing School does not run group classes for singing as every voice is different, and every student has different strong and weak points that need to be worked on. No two students have the same range or song choice interests. Also in a group class, every student develops at a different pace depending on ability and commitment, so it is very difficult for a teacher to give each individual what they require. The only time we do conduct group classes is if we are working with a troupe at a Dance School or Choir or Harmony class.
Vocal Coaching
Vocal coaching is also provided in lessons.
These are:
-
Vocal warm ups and cool downs
-
Vocal care and preservation
-
Do's and don'ts
-
Preparing for an audition
-
Working on stage fright and nerves
VBC - Vocal Breath Control
We will also work on your V.B.C. and proper breathing techniques. This consists of learning to sing and breath properly through the diaphragm and abdominal area (The 'V' in the ribs), releasing power, stamina, support of notes and voice, vibrato, strength, projection, and control. Breathing is a very important part of singing. If you use too much air your voice will sound thin and airy. If you don't use enough air you will not be able to support the note at the right pitch, and you will fall off the note.
