Formed in 2002 in Perth WA, and the same year their self titled Ep was getting high rotation on Triple J and playing the big day out, which shot them to the publics attention. Subsequently signing to Little Big Man Records and releasing, “This Day Last Year,” and “Kid your Dreaming” Eps.
In 2003 their first full length album “A House on the Street in a Town I’m from,” was released to critical praise. Touring with the likes of Morrissey, Gomoz, Grandaddy, The Church and Badly Drawn Boy.
In 2004, the Panics signed to Festival Publishing and supported the Happy Mondays in the UK and started writing the next album over there. In 2005, the band relocated in Melbourne and released the “Sleep like a Curse” album. The album was nominated for a J Award and was on high rotation with the same radio station.
In 2007, the Panics signed to Powder Fingers/Bernard Fannings lable Dew Process/Capital Records. Subsequently their third album “Cruel Guards” was Triple J’s Album of the week for the 8th of October and went onto win the 2007 J Award. “Cruel Guards” went aria gold status (sales over 35,000) in the first six months in Australia alone.
The Cruel Guards album was nominated for four Aria Awards winning its first Aria for “Best Adult Contemporary Album.”
They toured extensively in the UK, Australia and US in 2009/10. The Panics have recently supported Noel Gallagher, Powder Finger, the Cat Empire as well as playing many big festivals here and abroad.
